How can I add more gear on my roof rack?Updated 2 years ago

Installing Gear on the Standard Rack or Low Pro Rack

You can install solar panels, surfboards, kayaks, SUPs, roof boxes, and pretty much anything else that would typically be installed on a car roof rack using the crossbars that come included with our Low Pro Racks and Standard Racks. Since these racks are fully modular, you get to choose where you want to use the crossbars and install your roof-mounted gear exactly where you want.

Any rooftop gear designed for roof racks can get installed the same way, mounting onto the included 2" wide x 1" tall crossbars. Since this is relatively close to the size of most crossbars, installing gear on the crossbars included with the Low Pro racks is as easy as installing gear on the roof rack of a car.

Installing Gear on the Safari Rack

The Safari Rack doesn't have crossbars like the Low Pro Rack, but it does offer L-track mounting placements all over the rack which can be used for mounting gear on the roof. How you want to mount gear and what kind of hardware you'll need will all depend on what you're mounting and how you want to use it (is this going to be permanent, or does this need to be easily removable, etc).

While we'd love to say "This one way is hands-down the best way to mount gear on L-Track", it's just not realistic since what works for one person may not work for another due to the setup, arrangement, and even personal preference. This makes mounting gear to your Safari Rack totally up to you. Thankfully, L-track systems are used in a wide variety of applications so you'll be able to find several options for L-Track mounting hardware, fittings, and accessories.

However you decide to mount your roof top gear, the important thing when considering materials for this kind of modification is to make sure it's safely secured for the road - Never rely on a single point of safety, double-check your work, and check it out again once you're on the road or after long and bumpy adventures to ensure your gear is secure.
